DRAFT FOR LEGAL REVIEW. Written to match how the website actually works on 23 October 2026. Items in [square brackets] must be completed, and a legal adviser must review this page before launch.
This policy explains what information Adele’s World of Languages (adelebelusi.com) collects, why, and what you can do about it. The website is for children exploring languages, so it is designed to collect as little as possible.
Who we are
The website is run by [name of the parent or organisation responsible], [postal address]. You can contact us using the contact form. [If required: our data protection contact is …]
Children and young people
Children can use every part of the website without giving us any information. Children never have accounts, and there are no comments, chat or public messaging. Parent accounts, the bookshop and the contact form are for adults only (18 or over), and ask people not to include children’s personal details or photos of children.
Information we do not collect
- We do not use analytics or tracking tools, and there is no advertising.
- The website does not set cookies for visitors. When a parent signs in to their account, WordPress sets a sign-in cookie that is needed to keep them signed in; it is deleted when they sign out or it expires.
- We do not keep IP addresses with contact messages.
- Fonts, pictures and our own files are served from this website, not from other companies.
Contact form
If you send a message we receive your name, email address, whether you are a parent, teacher or someone else, what your message is about, your message, and the date. We use this only to read and reply to your message. It is stored privately on the website, where only the parents managing the website can read it, and sent to us by email. It is deleted automatically after [90] days, or sooner if you ask.
Our lawful basis for this is [legitimate interests: replying to messages people choose to send us — to be confirmed by the legal adviser].
To stop the form being misused, the website briefly counts messages from each connection using a one-way code, which is forgotten after one hour. It cannot be turned back into an IP address.
Parent accounts
If you create a parent account we keep your first name, email address, password (stored scrambled, never readable), the town or area you choose to show (optional), the date you confirmed you are 18 or over, and the date you joined. Other members only ever see your first name and, if you add it, your town or area. We use this to run your account, Book Points and the bookshop. [Lawful basis: to be confirmed by the legal adviser, e.g. performing our agreement with you.] You can delete your account at any time in My Account → Settings; this deletes your points, badges, credit, listings and photos.
Book Points and Quiz & Win
When a parent is signed in and a Quiz & Win quiz is finished on their device, we record the quiz, the score, how long it took and the points earned, to add points fairly and stop them being claimed twice. Your points history, badges and any website credit are kept with your account until you delete it.
The bookshop
If you list a book we keep the details and photos you add; location details are removed from photos automatically. Listings are checked by a parent who runs the website before they appear. When you ask to buy a book, the seller sees your first name and message; your email addresses are shared with each other only once the seller accepts, so you can arrange payment and delivery directly. The website does not take payments. We keep a record of each sale [for how long: to be confirmed].
Progress saved on your device
Flashcards, quizzes and lessons remember which words a child knows, their best quiz scores and which lessons they have finished. This is saved only in the browser on your own device (“local storage”). It is never sent to us or anyone else. You can delete it at any time with the “Clear my progress” button on the Flashcards, Quizzes, Learning Hub and Parents & Teachers pages, or by clearing your browser’s site data.
Videos
Videos are hosted by [Bunny Stream / Vimeo — to be confirmed]. Nothing is loaded from the video service until someone presses play. When a video plays, the video service receives the information any website receives from a browser, such as the IP address and browser type, under its own privacy policy: [link]. [For Vimeo, “do not track” is switched on.]
Hosting and email
The website is hosted by [hosting company], which keeps short technical logs to run the service securely: [details and retention from the host]. Email is sent through [email provider].
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, or object to how we use it, by using the contact form. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk). [Confirm wording and any other rights with the legal adviser.]
Changes to this policy
If anything changes, we will update this page and the date below. Last updated: [date].
